Why The Stupid 88?
In October of 2005, The Philadelphia Inquirer published a column titled, “Of Faith and Science”, by Jane Eisner. At that time, the Intelligent Design debate was raging and a Pennsylvania Court decision would soon be delivered that either allowed or denied Intelligent Design to be taught in PA public schools. Quoting Ms. Eisner:
“…The latest USA Today/CNN/Gallup Poll says that a majority of Americans, 53 percent, believe that God created human beings in their present form exactly as described in the Bible. Man, from the dust of the Earth. Woman, from man’s rib. A scant 12 percent think that human beings evolved without an assist from God.”
I’m no genius, but with a quick shot of math I deduced that 88% of those polled believed in at least some form of externally-influenced human creation, with a significant majority of those believing in the pure Biblical narrative! Of course, that alone does not make Intelligent Design true…but why should the 12% be the ones to determine its related policy? Then, Ms. Eisner enlightened me…I was too stupid and poor to understand that science had concluded long ago that a Creator was not involved at all. Had I been wealthier, and therefore better educated, I would believe as the 12% did, because they were wealthier and had better education than me, and therefore knew the truth better than me. Quoting Ms. Eisner:
“But here’s the uncomfortable revelation: Opinion on evolution is broadly correlated to income. Those in the lowest income brackets are twice as likely to view the Adam and Eve story as incontrovertible fact than are those at the top of the salary scale. You might say: This is only a poll, only a snapshot. True. But the picture here is echoed in other surveys that have found a sharp difference in views on evolution and creationism based on education level. College graduates are twice as likely as those with just a high school diploma to accept the natural-selection theory of evolution. Polite company generally tries to change the subject when such observations are raised. We are still distinctly uncomfortable when noting the connection between class and education, but it exists: The more money you have, the more likely you are to be better educated, the more likely you are to have attained an understanding of and appreciation for scientific knowledge. And this debate over the teaching of evolution rests on knowledge. “
The first thought that came to me as I read this was something like, “So, The Stupid 88 should just stay out of the way and keep quiet while the Elite 12 control everything, because we’re too stupid and poor to understand the truth.” The idea for The Stupid 88 was born. It took me a while to actually get going on it (mainly because of my stupidly poor condition) but here it is at last.
Who Am I?
My name is Mike, I’ve lived in Jefferson County, New York, near Depauville for the last 10 years. I’m a native of Rome, NY. I have some college education but no degree, except in the school of hard knocks. I have no political party affiliation but I am conservative for the most part.
Why Am I Blogging? I’ve watched this country go from common sense conservatism to common insanity liberalism for too long without doing much proactively to stop it, so shame on me. We started as a conservative, Judeo-Christian based nation, and we have been relentlessly attacked from within and without for that ever since. Modern Liberalism will destroy this country if it is not defeated.

I generally will not enable comments because they always seem to quickly degenerate off-topic, often reduced to little more than name calling. That doesn’t interest me on other sites, and I almost never leave comments anywhere else.
